Balboa is danced in pairs and to swing music. Its origins bring us to southern California in the 1920s, although its golden years were in the 1930s–40s. Although it began as a dance with steps in closed positions, Balboa has evolved and incorporated steps with open positions. The most important aspects of dancing balboa are the connection between the couple and leading with the torso. It is a creative and subtle dance. Balboa can be danced at any time, at a faster or slower pace.
