The rhythm of Samba music was brought to Brazil by African slaves, and entered their cities at the end of the 19th century.
Actually, one cannot speak of a single dance, but of a set of dances with a rhythm and a common origin, being impossible to define any of these dances, as the “original” style of samba.
The most important seized couple samba style is Gafieira samba. The gafieiras were cabarets and dance venues in Rio de Janeiro, where the humble classes were going to dance, hence the name “Samba de gafieira”. In Rio de Janeiro these stores were located mainly in the neighborhoods of Botafogo, Catete and the Center.
