Latin Moves (for Swing Dancers)

Does it happen to you that when you dance swing, you hear a “latin” part of the song and you don’t know how to dance it? or the only thing you can think of is the shimmy or some exaggerated hip movements? Well, welcome to the introduction of the Latin social dance movement, where you can deepen your historical, corporal and creative knowledge on this topic 😉

Historically, mambo was developing in New York along with swing, jazz, and Afro-American dances in the same clubs or neighboring dance floors. In the famous film “the Spirit Moves” by Mura Dehn we can see a fusion of charleston, rumba, mambo, lindy in a movement language of dancers from Savoy, Palladium and other popular tracks of the time: https://www.youtube .com/watch?v=xpE0XJhm0LM

In Alina’s new course we will learn the principles of the mambo movement, its rhythms, steps and combinations and how they might relate to her solo and partner swing. In addition, the vocabulary of movement, musicality and polyrhythmic structure of the mambo dance is a profound resource to educate your body and enrich your jazz and swing with flavor!
